Identificatio help needed!
« on: January 23, 2010, 10:17:33 am »
These three coins were all found in the UK. I posted both sides from the first two coins, the last one is very small, the reverse has no details whatsover. I am clueless, any suggestions will be appreciated!

First coin is Claudius II Gothicus, September 268 - August or September 270 A.D.
Bronze antoninianus, RIC V 266, uncertain mint, DIVO CLAVDIO, radiate head right; reverse CONSECRATIO, eagle standing left, head right; This commemorative type was issued by Quintillus or Aurelian.
The second at a quick glance could be Antononius Pius and the third coin, constantine era soliders and standards?

The second looks more like Commodus, and I think I see -MM-. The third is a two soldiers, one standard GLORIA EXERCITVS, issued by one or other of the sons of Constantine I.

I thought the second might be Marcus Aurelius with Salus reverse but it does look like Commodus...

The CONSECRATIO eagle standing, looks a young person, but neither Saloninus, nor Valerianus II nor Gallienus II fit.
Could it be an 'ordinary' DIVO CLAVDIO ant?
