  • Trying not to screw up...one coin at a time...
Morning all. Here is the other coin from yesterdays junk box excursion that I need help with. I am pretty sure that it is an imitative (either that or it is a really undersized flan), but I am not certain at all of who it was tring to imitate!
The ob legend that I think I can read is this: (starting at the 9o'clock) ...TCO(P?)...
I cannot even see dots on the rev where a legend might be...but I may be seeing a wing...like a left facing victory, but I am not certain.

Any help would be great.

thanks,
Chris

Dear Cris,

it's an imitative or barbarous antoninianus of Tetricus II with Pax rev. See e.g.:
http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?search=Tetricus+II+PAX&view_mode=1&en=1&de=1&fr=1&it=1#1

Best regards,
Bartosz

I was thinking the same thing, but did not want to taint the process! Cool, thanks. Another would be emperor represented in my collection now. :)

IT could also be Victorinus with the C and the O reversed in the legiond ( the "P" at the top may represent R)

Just a thought----

lol...well crud Paul...that certainly throws a wrinkle into things! :) That would actually make more sense. OK...command decision...this is now and will forever be an imitative of Victorinus. (until someone else point out somthing that makes even more sense to me!  ;D )

The coin is a barbarous imitation of a Gallic antoninianus, so we can assume that the coin was made by an engravet who didn't know Latin. Young face of the imperator seems to suggest Tetricus II.

Bartosz

Now you know why barbarous radiates are usually classified by the reverse :)
