Vespasian Dupondius !
« on: May 17, 2010, 03:02:26 pm »
Hi,

This seems to be a commemorative dupondius of Vespasian struck after his death but I could not find a similar sample on the net. It goes as: IMP T CAES DIVI VESP F AVG P M TR P P P COS VIII. His radiated head right. Reverse: ROMA S C. Roma seated left holding wreath and parazonium. Any help with reference is appreciated. Thank you..

Hi Solon,

it's a dupondius of Titus, the son of the deified Vespasian (DIVI VESP Filius), similar to this one:

RIC 503 (R)
Eastern mint (Thrace?), 80-81 AD

Indeed a very nice coin, fairly rare too.
