Salonina Provincial
« on: August 15, 2009, 07:24:48 pm »
Greetings All,

I am having difficulty identifying the city for this rather large Salonina provincial.  The obverse is a draped bust of Salonina, reading KORNHLIA SALWNINA.  The reverse has Triptolemus on biga pulled by two serpents.  There is a date below the biga.  There is a partial inscription on the left reading possibly  :Greek_Alpha: :Greek_Iota: :Greek_epsilon: :Greek_Eta: :Greek_Iota: :Greek_omega_small: :Greek_Nu:.    On the right is an damaged inscription ending in either  :Greek_Gamma: or  :Greek_Rho: and  :Greek_Chi:.  The coin is 32 mm.

I thought it might be Anchialus, as there are a few Triptolemus coins in the 3rd century AD.

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Edward
