there are some nice coins in that category Noah. someone somewhere must be very happy!

i have some low grade coins in my collection that i eventually removed from my gallery (nothing as nice as yours), but even those i just can't bear to let go of. in other words i don't see myself setting up a folder like that any time soon.   8)

Thanks Peter, JC, and Jay!  I had these photos in a folder next to my folder of currently owned coins and thought I should share them.  The point of galleries is to show-off coins, so why not these as well?  I do miss some of them, but others I either got tremendous deals for or found a coin of that particular emperor that I liked better.  I guess it is easy to track my progression in taste since I do only collect, for the most part, one coin from each emperor.  For example, I sold the Antonius Pius and Severus Alexander bronzes for two lovely denarii.  On the other hand, I sold a nice Macrinus denarius for an awesome portrait of his in bronze.

Andreas does have a folder full of an extensive list of coins he has sold.  He is quite correct, and, in fact, I kinda got the idea from him to begin with!  ;)

I too have that sort of thing : one sub section called "has been" for coins no longer in my collection but that I still own (basically they are for sale) and an other one for the coins "now in other forum members collections".

Jean Claude, I did see that folder in your gallery.  What I remember from your gallery, however, is that you have extraordinary coins that you still own.  I am thoroughly impressed each time I view what you have accumulated; spectacular specimens carefully chosen.  You have one of the best collections quality-wise in all of the Forvm galleries!  I specifically remember Andreas' gallery, on the other hand,  for the sheer number of coins he placed in his "SOLD" folder.  If I recall correctly, he only had four or five coins in his folders of coins still owned, while his sold folder contained dozens upon dozens of specimens (although those four or five he still owns are sensational coins in their own right).  I created my gallery to dazzle and entertain since I can't compete with the top collectors here at Forvm.  My coins might be nice, yes, but they are not the quality of the top collectors...who have unbelievably marvelous and covetable coins.

Noah, great idea, some great coins in that album, i especially like the Julian II AE and Hadrian AE Dupondius.  After selling one of my coins that was already in my gallery i wasn't sure if i should delete the file or not, so i went ahead and made a "sold coins" gallery also.  And i added a couple i sold recently.  Thanks for the inspiration.

Well, thanks, but I am hardly the first to have this type of folder.  In fact, other than Andreas and Jean Claude, there are numerous others who already had such albums labeled "Sold" before I did.  I actually took time and went through every Forvm member's gallery.  In doing this, I was able to make such an observation and, thus, got my idea to do this.  Now, perhaps I am the first to bring to light through a thread that I have such an album in my gallery.  I am glad, though that more members are adding sold coins.  It just means more coins to see!  ;D

This is my latest meager addition.   This Valerian caught my eye because it truly appeared to have the portrait of an aging and weary man who ruled over an empire in distress.

Jay, at least the US Presidents never had to lead an army into battle while in office!

Andreas, I guess that means I have the only portrait of Valerian with an upset stomach!  He does look like he is about to "hurl."  ;D

That is one attractive coin, someone took the utmost care to clean that one, and it came out beautifully. Congratulations on another great addition.

Thanks Mike!  I'd like to say that I cleaned it, but I have few skills in cleaning coins.  Therefore, I do appreciate and admire those who can conserve these lovely specimens!

This is not a spectacular coin, but does have a nice portrait IMO.  I have found many sub-par portraits, and this one caught my eye.

Hi Noah,

It's particularly difficult to find a decent specimen of an AE4 at this period. This one has a very elegant portrait.
I wish mine were that nice in style (https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-33690)

Well, the face on my portrait may be more lifelike, but your reverse and overall detail is outstanding for an AE4!
