Copper Riot coin
« on: June 15, 2009, 04:25:36 pm »
In the article on the Russian Copper Riot of 1662, Wikipedia mentions mass production of counterfeit copper in addition to the official coinage (sufficiently junky to cause the riot).  Can anyone tell me how to separate the official from the unofficial coins of this period?  This one is badly double struck but has a decent horse head in the die.  Links to photos of others would be appreciated.

Hello, Howard!

It`s "Catalogue Of Medieval Coins Of Russia from The Reigns of Aleksei Mikhailovich, Fedor Alekseevich, Ivan Alekseevich, and Peter Alekseevich (1645-1696 ad)" by russian autors Igor V. Grishin and Vladimir N. Kleschinov.

They wrote the cycle of books devoted the Russian coinage in XVI - early XVIII c.

Thank you very much for the reference.  I didn't know that these works were in English.
