I am not an expert on this topic, but I like to mention that
acsearch.info has many examples (at least a dozen) of coins of this
type with latin S or latin inverted S. I do not, however, judge on the authenticity of those specimens, although some of the items could be pressed (in my eyes). Actually, in many instances the latin S coins remained unsold.
Thus, if the latin S is an indicator of forgery, then these things have been around for a couple of years and made it in a lot of high end
auctions.
