Uncommon Prastina Messalinus rv.
« on: March 16, 2009, 06:21:29 pm »
This has been in my collection for a while. Since I do not have Hristova/Jekov I am not sure whether it is published. However, neither Varbanov nor AMNG contain the type.

Philip II. from Markianopolis, 27 mm, 13.79 gm.

Obverse: Bareheaded, draped, cuirassed bust of Philip II. r. facing draped bust of Serapis with Kalathos facing left. Legend: M IOVLIOC FILIPPOC KAICAR AVG

Reverse: Hygieia std. r. feeding serpent from patera besides Asklepios std. facing, head left, holding serpent-staff, hand on hip. E in field above. Legend: VP PRACT MECCALEINOV MARKIANOPO LITW (the latter four letters vertically next to Asklepios).

Best regards

Thilo

Hi Thilo!

A very interesting coin, and not in Hristova/Jekov.

Best regards
