This coin, issued under Quintilianus, is depicted in Hristova & Jekov Markianopolis (6.18.38.3), but I believe that this
obverse die is
rare and the OV
ligature is not recorded (although my
Bulgarian is non-existant and I might have missed a reference to this
ligature somewhere). In addition to the
ligature there appears to be a
legend blunder with an superfluous letter inserted in Î IOC, maybe a lunate sigma or epsilon? Also N. B. the epsilon in Antoneinus.
Here is my reading of the
obverse legend (
cf. H & J p.62):
AN[T]ΩNEINOC ΠC(?) -IOC AVΓ
OVCTOC
This is conjecture on my
part working with only the specimen on page 62 and the attached coin.
A handsome coin I wish I
had pulled the trigger on, but you can't have them all.
