« on: October 05, 2008, 03:23:34 pm »
not  sure if I posted this before,  but I don't think I did.  It's been laying around in my unknown pile  for more or less 1 year and I think It's time to give it an attribution

the coin itself AR 13 mm  0.3 grams

I'm saying British,  1700 ish,  but not sure

any help would be appreciated

cheers

I've looked through the English and Scottish coinages of the period, and can't find anything with that distinctively shaped shield. I'm not familiar with that cross, but I can't see it as being British.

If it's a UK find, that doesn't necessarily imply that it's a UK coin.

Thanks Robert

I was trying to ID the shield also with no luck,  those 2 indented sides  are  the problem.

I'm  not sure if it is a UK find,  it came in a large lot of 500 uncleaned almost a year ago,  but besides European type dirt on them,  I have no ideal where they came from

It did come from the same lot where I got the Radu I/ Wallachia coins from

thanks again

WOW,  I'm impressed

So the coin in better condition sould look like this

and this is the attribution  from http://tjbuggey.ancients.info

Hungary AR Denar 1619
Obv: Madonna and child; Patro(na) Hvnga(riae).
Rev: Coat of arms. Mint: K-B (Kormocbanya = Kremnitz = Kremnica; now in Slovakia)
Huszar 1141. Matthias 2

this coin is of 1619  so I could attribute it to Haszar 1141 var  ?

1141 without the var. It covers the years 1613-1620.
