common but I dont know
« on: August 07, 2008, 07:11:11 pm »
Can anyone help ID this coin?
I really cant make out any legends
but the reverse I think is a common type.
I am hoping someone can ID the emperor from the portrait
and tell me the type of reverse.
Thanks for the help

I think it is this coin go to Helvetica's Spread Sheet and look up Constans   CONSTAN-S PF AVG   VICTORIAE DD AVGGQ NN   but your palm branches are upright so it may be a different version.

EDIT
I think with upright palm branch in center it could be Constantious II or Constans, and I can not read the mintmark to narrow down the RIC#

CONSTANS had coins with upright palmbranch in center, minted in the following cities

trier
lyons
arles
rome
thessalonica
aquileia and
siscia

but I agree  the mint would be great to help id this ,  first letter to the right of the bust  would be great..  can you read any of these  ?

Its hard to read
I think based on letter count and guessing
the obv  might say DN CONSTANS PF AVG
with upright palmbranch.
I checked Helveticas list and it could be
Arles 94,98
Aquileia 93
Trier 211
I couldn't find a pix anywhere to match it,
can anybody help?
Thanks

Here is a picture of RIC VIII 195 that looks similar but I am just not able to read your Mint.
