Group of Byzantine on Attribution Challenge Page
« on: August 04, 2008, 08:31:05 am »
I have added a group of Byzantine, mostly bronze scyphates, to our attribution challenge page.  Most are nice coins and should be attributable but we have had them a long time and I never seem to find time to work them.  If you enjoy attributing, we could use the help. :)

Kevin  :)

Actually this coin is quite strange and doesn't quite fit.  Note the left side of the obverse seems to have something there other than the legend and the legend that is usually there is on the reverse.  It could be a flip strike but it doesn't appear to be.

It is clearly Sear 366, Iustinus II half follis Thessalonica mint, year 8, bearing M+ over K on reverse
which characterizes  a lot of these coins.
This coin is overstruck on a previous Iustinianus half follis from were come the letters you mentioned.
