New Restoration Book questions for members
« on: June 17, 2008, 01:37:38 am »
Ave!

As many of you may know, Sheri and I are currently in the process of creating a new Coin Cleaning book, with the working title "The Resoration of Ancient Coins".

Unlike our first book, "The Art of Cleaning Ancient Coins", which is mainly a beginner's primer, in this new issue, we'll be going much deeper into the subject. We already have a number of subjects that we'll delve into, but we'd like your prior feedback, as well.

In this case, we'd like all of you to tell us the info that you'd like us to include! No subject is taboo other than "tooling" and "silver re-patination".  :-X

Best to all,

Kevin

Dealer style, hoard cleaning techniques with chemical baths, a-la Salem's interesting techniques, but scaled down to hobbyist size.  ;)

the different kinds of crud or oxydation one encounters (cement, mud, desert, red, green, cancerous?!)... what kind of "fabric" will react best to what kind of treatment... Leave rough fields alone?... how to repair the patina patches that have flaked off.

Ave!

Okay!

How bout a "how to" with Jax and Dellers and the like?

So far, so good...

Chris, we think alike, my friend...that's already in the works.  ;)

Ray, hadn't thought of that, buddy. Good call. I'll be sure to include a couple of chapters on this subject.

Dealer style, hoard cleaning techniques with chemical baths, a-la Salem's interesting techniques, but scaled down to hobbyist size. ;)

Scott, Scott...  If memory serves correctly, Salem once mentioned that he paid $10G for that particular secret. That's one secret that WILL NOT be available in the book..darn it!  >:(

Everyone, please keep your thoughts coming!

Heh, yeah, I know Kevin, its wishful thinking...

Sounds like the book idea will be a hit, there are always plenty of folks looking to learn. The Jax thing is a good suggestion.
