The
Mabbott Collection (1969) sale was an important one as far as
Roman Provincial coins goes. There were nearly 4,000 (non-Imperial) coins sold in a multi day event many of which would be of interest to the
Provincial collector. There were coins sold here which do not appear to have been catalogued elsewhere (in large publications at any rate). Certainly I have discovered 4 coins of particular interest which I could not locate in any other publication.
On this page of my web-site I have started to list all the coins sold in this sale
. I only have a couple of hundred done but as there are a few thousand coins I wonder is there any point - Is it worth the effort of my continuing - It is quite time consuming. Is it of use / interest?
The descriptions are quite spartan but certainly better than nothing for some areas. Coin descriptions for Moesian or Thracian mints have certainly moved on a long way since then.
