reference number needed for Constantine marti conservatori
« on: April 05, 2008, 08:52:40 am »
this coin is briefly mentionned in RIC 6  and RIC 7 but  with no reference numbers ( at least  none that I can find )

The coin itself  is

AE 21-22 mm  3.1 grams
OBV  ::  CONSTANTINVS PF AVG. Laureate and cuirassed bust right
REV  ::  MARTI CON-SERVATORI.  Mars standing right right holding spear and shield
EX  ::  TT ( Ticinum )
RIC VI Ticinum  ????
EX Ben Bridgwater collection

anyone have any other references desides Ric  for this?

I did get this excerpt from coin archives,  but  not 100% sure  of what it means

RIC VI, S. 298, 124 (a).

here is the link to coin archives

NOTE This coin had beuatiful sand patina on it  until I got my paws on it  :( ,  one little miscalculations and I had to remove the sand.. but  the coin is still very beautiful in hand   :)

It means RIC VI, 124a (page 298). Did you check if this is correct?

Thanks Andreas

I think 124a  has the ST in the exergue.  This is according  to a description in a vcoin store ( i know  they may be wrong)

and I canno t find anything else on line

you know I also could be reading RIC  wrong  on page 298   coin reference number  124a  has PST  in the Exergue collumn

Meaning it includes coins from three officinae, i.e. PT ST and TT all occur.

Look at the head of that section on page 297. You will see P-TT. That means that the first of two letters range from P to T. That's to say P, S or T for officina one, two and three. The second letter is always T for Ticinum. So 124a is known for all three officina, i.e. PT, ST or TT.
