"The Stobi puzzle" is just another way of saying, our attempt to establish the chronology of Stobi's coinage, the relative size of the issues, the denominations of the coins, the significance of the coin types, and possible reasons for the issues.

These are the same tasks we would like to accomplish for EVERY body of ancient coinage; there is nothing particularly enigmatic about Stobi's coinage, so it is a little exaggerated to call it a "puzzle".

Okey curtisclay, I get it....

No I guess it's not that important for me to learn all there is to know about the Stobi coins. I just happened to own one and got curious. I will talk about value somewhere els, it isn't realy my concerns as I don't buy to sell...

Regards
Jacob

I got this coin (23 mm, 6.41 g) recently, which is clearly of this type:

However, both obverse and reverse dies are different to that coin.

Is ist still Josifovsky 231 or a different citation?

When I'm home this weekend I will get you a better citation.  Josifovski's numbers apply to specific die pairs!

OK, Josif 231 reverse is Nike standing left, your reverse is Nike advancing left

Your die pair is not in Josifovski but can be identified as Kuzmanovc Collection 280, thanks for bringing this coin to my attention!

Again, one question:

Could you give me the exact title of the Kuzmanovc collection publication, if possible, because I could not find out anything online about that collection?

Thank you very much in advance!

The newest publication of a catalog of coins from Stobi:

Josifovski, Pero. 2010.  The Kuzmanovic CollectionStobi.  Macedonian Numismatic Collections, Volume 1.

This initial volume of a forthcoming series catalogs over 1100 coins produced by the Stobi mint.  This catalog presents a portion of the private collection of Caslav Kuzmanovic.  The material and photographs in the book are high quality.  This catalog greatly expands our understanding of the Stobi mint.  There are many unpublished dies, die pairs, and reverse types.  This is an essential book for those interested in this coinage.

Alert!  Bojana Boric Breskovic will soon release a new catalog of Stobi coins found in the Serbian collections.

Hello!  It has been a year since I posted here.  The new catalog by Boric Breskovic has not appeared yet.  Glad to see Robin back and posting coins.   I posted 3 new issues in the gallery....
