Sad Mystery help
« on: March 21, 2008, 05:54:00 pm »
This sad  coin is 35mm and 20 grams.
I found it in the junk box of a dealer of all kinds of things at the local flea market.
He in years past has had other worn ancients-a few.
He or someone else obviously "cleans" some coins, perhaps with a hammer.

I'm just interested in a possible ID of the individual on the front if possible.  Guesses welcome.

Thanks.
Bruce

It reminds me to this barbarous imitation of a Claudius sestertius:

Hi. I'd also say Claudius. Can't make out that reverse though.

A late thank you to all!

I am always caught by the "handsome" issues of Claudius.  I can never quite accept that he was (actually was not) as handsome as depicted on some of his issues.

Maybe that´s characteristic for empires in their succcessful days - to idealize the emperors no matter what they really are.
