Unfortunately the "A" letter is a little blurred, but I think it's not a plain A but a ligated AV as I tried to show in the picture below; Caracalla was, as far as I have seen, never called Marcus Antoninus but always Marcus Aurelius Antoninus. Sure, this might be different on a provincial coin, but it would be highly unlikely. Moreover, Marcus would not be abbreviated MAR because that's Marinus. Marcus is always just a plain M.

Here is the obverse letters zoomed in

I'll post microscope pics in a few minutes

So the OBV legend should read  AVTO M AVR ANTONINO ??

I think the O is visible and belongs to AVTO.

Best regards

-- And as Jochen points out in Reply #6, the transcription should read ANTWNIN since the second vowel there is an Omega not an Omicron.

firstly,  I appologize for the late reply,  work  and a nasty winter are getting in the way  (  time to retire ?  :)  )

Getting anothe 12-15 inches of snow  and freezing rain as we speak  :(

so just to confirm,  the obverse legend should read  AVTO M  :AV: R  ANT :Greek_Omega: NINOS

The final S in not seen on the coin,  but following the contour,  would have been mostly off flan

or ,  as usual,  I could be way off again  LOL

The S, at least the lower half of it, is there at about 8 o'clock. I think we've got the correct reading now.

Just to be awkward - personally, I am not convinced it is M AVP rather than MAP.

Can anyone confirm this breakdown for me

AVTO= AVTOKRATOR = imperator
M= MARKOC = MARCUS
AVR (  or AVP ) = Aurelius
ANT :Greek_Omega: NINOS =Antoninus

so the complete OBV legend reads  AVTO M AVR ( or AVP ) ANT :Greek_Omega:NINOS

IMPERATOR MARCVS AURELIVS ANTONINVS   akA CARACALLA

Now that Steve and Chris mentionned it,  I'm not sure of what the legend reads   M AVR   or M AVP

what would AVP signify ?  I could not find any reference to it.

I would like to thank you all for the ongoing help with this

cheers

It either reads M AVP or MAP  - R is a Latin letter, you won't find it on such a coin.

If M AVP, it is Marcus Aurelius.
If MAP, it might be Mar(cus) or it might be a simple error where the V has been omitted.

Thanks Steve

Why did I not remember the R issue ?  I ran into this before......I'll attribute that to Provincial overload  (  ARGH  even bald, I still have blond moments  :(   )

see I told you all before,  these provincials were going to give me ulcers  LOL   :-\

so the coin either reads

                                Imperator MArcus Antoninus  ( MAP )
                                                     OR
                         Imperator Marcus Aurelius Antoninvs  ( M AVP )

all depending on weather there is ligated AV. Since there is clearly no V visible

or it could be an engraving error  with the V ommited

now to find out what is actually there

thanks again
