from the date on this coin, this looks medieval

Hi Norm

The coin is Spanish, and the date is 1659, which is when the coin was counterstamped with a crowned PHILIPPVS monogram on one side and a crowned REX monogram with the date below on the other.

This reduced the value by half, from 4 to 2 or 2 to 1 marvedis depending on the size of the coin.
