Another Carausius Trial Strike
« on: December 17, 2007, 03:31:49 am »
Hi,

I already had one Carausius AE laureate trial strike in my collection (seen HERE) and was rather luck to find another, not so well preserved specimen, the other day.

AE laureate
Obv "IMP CARAVSIVS PF AVG"
Radiate, draped & cuirassed bust right
Rev "FELICITAS AVG"?
Galley left
London mint?
-/-/RSR
RIC - (cf 560)

On a thick, heavy flan (approx. 7 grammes). The small obverse die probably from a "denarius", the larger reverse from an antoninianus. There is also evidence of being overstruck on another coin on the obverse, type undeterminate.

Regards,

Mauseus
