Hydro that's what this thread is all about!  Thanks for sharing.  Actually the reverse looks very boldly struck.

I believe this coin meets the criteria of this thread. Rather decrepit, but also rather rare, at least as far as I can tell..

Mesopotamia, Rhesaena, Severus Alexander
AE26, 11.1g, 5h; Rhesaena, 222-235
Obv.: [AΛEXANΔROC CE.. A CEB]; Laureate and draped bust left, holding shield
Rev.: PHCAINHCI-[ΩN LEG III G]; Tyche seated left on rock, holding eagle in right hand, left hand set on rocks, river-god swimming left below
Reference: Mionnet 187; BMC Rhesaena 1; cf. Castelin 30 (?)

Hi John, I think for the type or rather era and area, it is not a bad coin.

That doesn't surprise me. Over the years, I've only come across 2 or 3 for sale, and they didn't look much better than mine.

Here is one that I had in my collection when I was doing a set of Roman emperors. Wish I had a better pic of it!
All the best,
Nathan

How do you like this one?

AE30, 19.70 grm.
Severus Alexander, Amasia, Pontus,
Obv.: Laur. dr. cuir. bust r.
Rv.: City view of Amasia with 2 temples, altar of Zeus Stratios, several (sepulcral?) towers and walls.

One of my really favorite but definitely not one of my best coins...

Quite an attractive coin, actually. Nothing "worst" about it!

Here's my contribution. I picked this little item out of a rummage tray at the coin fair, not quite sure what it was. When I got it home, I found that it was a coin of Sabina from Cyme in Aeolis, RPC III, 1935, reverse Isis with Harpocrates. Not beautiful, but moderately rare: RPC lists only 2 specimens, one in Munich, one in Berlin; ISEGRIM 5.

Ah, no (sigh). But that coin wouldn't have been in a rummage tray...

Nice ones guys! Thanks for reviving this thread.  I was thinking of it just the other day.  I have a few that might fit the bill that I'll post soon.

I bought one the other month which I am happy to share. Not sure what possessed me and I do not actually recall bidding on it. My friend described the obverse as looking like a 'ghost jumping out of the coin'. Even the photo did not come out well...
