3 Medieval French coin recently purchased
« on: December 05, 2007, 04:57:40 pm »
I recently purchased a lot of three French coins. I dont have better pictures yet as the coins are not yet in hand. I was wondering if someone more familier with French coinage can point in the right direction with the attribution. The seller left some info about the coins but doesnt really seem to know what they are... Here's the photo I have at the moment, thanx!

Hi ROMA

They all appear to be 16-17th century billon douzains, the right hand one probably of Henri III (1574-1589) but better pictures would certainly help to narrow it down further.

Best wishes

Alan

I've taken some better pictures of the coins, I hope this can help identify them!

Hi ROMA,

The two first look like they are douzains, minted by Henri III who ruled France from AD 1574 to 1589. Being at work now, I can't tell a lot more at the moment

Hope this helps to find the good direction

I found this example with the legend:
billon twelve-line poem, 1593, 4th type.  In the name of Henri III.
obv:HENRICVS·III·DEI·G·FRAN·R·I593 crowned Ecu between two o'clock.
rev:SIT·NOMEN·DNI·BEN [] indented Cross, stationed of four bed.
I was thinking maybe the legend on the second coin i posted might be similer to this one?
