Greek ID Help Please
« on: November 14, 2007, 06:04:55 pm »
I need some help with this Greek bronze.  I am not sure what is on the reverse...headress of Isis?  It is 15mm/4.21g.

Some larger scans would help...

The obverse looks to me like Marathos, but I'm not entirely sure.  Perhaps checking some listings of Phoenician coins (via wildwinds or Coinarchives) would help.  Do you notice any Phoenician letters on the coin, or any inscription whatsoever?

Is that an elephant on the reverse?

After I saw the scan online, it does look like an elephant!  I'm thinking Antiochous IV, Vieled Demeter/elephant head.  Any insight would be great!  :-)

Thanks,
Ron
