Two strange irregular coins
« on: October 03, 2007, 03:48:08 pm »
Here are two strange coins that I got lately. Maybe someone has an idea about when, where or by whom such coins were made.

1. AR Denarius
Obv. TRAIANUS - AUG COS III
Head (but whose?), laureate, with drapery on left shoulder, facing right
Rev. AEQUI - TAS AUG
Aequitas standing left with scales and sceptre
Diameter 18 mm, weight 3.27 g, die axis 6 o'clock

2. AR Antoninian
Obv. IMP GORDIAN(us pius fel) AUG
Laureate, draped bust right, seen from behind
Rev. PAX (funda)TA CV PERSI (sic)
Pax standing left (with branch and sceptre)
Diameter 21 mm, weight 3.65 g, die axis 12 o'clock

Both coins are solid silver, as it seems; I don't think either of them is modern. Has anybody seen similar specimens?

Thanks in advance,

Rupert

Very interesting imitations !

I like the Gordian III, with the reverse of Philip !!

I have already see a lot of imitations of Gordian III, but never with this reverse.

One day if you wish to separate of this Gordian's imitation, Rupert, you can contact me...
