Armenia, Gosdantin IV ?, Sis mint ?
« on: June 15, 2007, 08:39:20 am »
Hello,

browsing and comparing the internet resources (https://www.forumancientcoins.com/armeniannumismatics/ zeno.ru, http://mehmeteti.150m.com ) left me at a certain state, where experience in old Armenian coins and especially in Armenian legends is necessary.
But maybe someone can help with this one.
My closest match so far:

Armenians of Cilicia, Gosdantin  IV ?, Sis mint ?, 1365-1373 AD., AR Takvorin (20-22 mm / 2,00 g), Obv.: Kostandin Tagawor Hayots ("Gosdantin King of Armenians" in Armenian letters) , King on horseback riding right; left hand holding reins. Rev.:  Shineal i kaghakn i Sis ("Struck in the city of Sis" in Armenian letters),  Lion walking right, cross behind.

Thanks and regards

Gosdantin III, AR Takvorin. Mint not quite legible, but most likely Sis, as opposed to the rarer Tarson (Tarsus)
