Carus question: Mint & RIC number?
« on: February 20, 2007, 08:17:40 pm »
Can anyone help with the following coin?
I believe the mint is Cyzicus - but not sure.... cannot find a CARUS piece with this mint (I base Cyzicus on Numerian coins from the gallieries).

An RIC number would be wonderful, if possible!

Coin as follows:
Bronze antoninianus of Carus (282-283 AD), Roman Empire

IMP C M AVR CARVS P F AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right / CLEMENTIA TEMP, Carus accepting Victory on globe from Jupiter. "S" between figures, XXI in ex. 22.5 mm, 3.1 grams.

Many many thanks!

Hi Dpaul, the determination is correct it's Cyzicus, your coin is 118c, Radiate Draped and Cuirassed. It's  the third emission
in December 282.
