I have looked in both of Balog's books, the ones on Ayyubid and Mamluk coins, and I can't find a similar coin.  I am still learning to use the Mamluk book (it is a reprint with bad plates), so it still might be in that book.

Hi

The reason you ahve not found them is because it is an Ayyubid Billon or Black Dirhem (secon would be AE).
They have been published later and are not mentioned in Balog. It belongs to the Saladin era.

This is a common AE fals of the Ayyubid of Hama.
al-Saleh Najm al-din Ayyub is clearly seen on reverse.

best regards

explorer,

I couldn't find your coin in the one Balog book I've got (The Coinage of the Ayyubids. London: Royal Numismatic Society Special Publication, No. 12., 1980).  And now I know why--thanks Burak!  Fortunately, Bakkar reads Arabic!  FYI; Balog lists al-Saleh Najm al-din Ayyub's full name/titles:

Al-Salih Najm Al-din Ayyub ibn Al-Kamil Muhammad I
Lord of Amid and Hisn-Kayfa [629-636 H=1231-1238 AD]
Lord of Damascus, First Rule [636 H=1238 AD]
Ruler of Egypt/Sultan of the Empire [637-647 H=1239-1249 AD]
Lord of Damascus, Second Rule [643-647 H=1245-1249 AD]

Now I know why I didn't find it.  Balog's images of 566 are all different in appearance and not with full inscriptions.
