OK, here are 2 more.... The first coin.... need a cleaning tip here!

It APPEARS to have solder on the face portion! Look at the ear and eye!  Sort of screams FAKE to me, but I'm sure not an expert.... still a newbie!!!!!

Are you sure it isn't just the bare metal? I doubt there would be solder on a bronze coin.

Awl --

It is VERY VERY hard --- on TOP of the coin... the coin appears to be almost uncirculated!!!! It's that nice... except for the very very hard bit -- it has a metallic look to it, sort of... I've seen hard dirt... but this is something else!

Ave!

I've seen this phenomena before.

My private theory, and it's probably well off base from fact, is that sometimes, due to whatever soil circumstances, AE buried coins in a wet environment, occasionally absorb/transfer "silvering" from silvered Antoninianus issues.  ??? ::)

HOw would you recommend cleaning it?  Electrolysis? I don't think soaking will do much here!

It could be a risky procedure, but if you want to use a magnifier and a toothpick or pin vise.
