2006 Forvm Classical Studies Awards Poll
« on: December 17, 2006, 01:18:21 am »
Greetings Fellow FORVM Classical Numismatic Discussion Board Members,

Welcome to THE Final Polling for the 2006 Forvm Awards For Classical Studies!  We will be awarding a gold logo to the site that receives the most votes, silver to the second most-voted, and bronze to the site that comes in third in votes.  If any sites tie in these top three tiers, they will both/all receive the relevant logos.

We would like you to vote for three sites from the list of finalists above in order to give the silver and bronze awards as much backing as possible.  However, you may vote for just one or two sites if that is what you really want to do.  Please note that the board programming requires you to vote for all of your choices at the same time.  If you make a mistake or you change your mind, you may click "Remove Vote" (which will erase all your votes in this particular poll) and resubmit your choices.

The finalists are the eight sites that received the most submissions during the nomination process that closed a few days ago and those that tied with the eighth site on that list.  We congratulate them for this and wish them the best of luck in polling.  Regardless of the outcome, they are all beacons of Classical knowledge on the Internet.

As for the rest of our standard award recipients, your sites are also instrumental in helping us coin collectors place our little treasures into context.  Therefore, they are appreciated all the same and not one bit less.  This is why you received the original award after our membership reviewed them in their own individual polls.  Since a site can only win the annual gold award twice, there exists a great chance that you may see your sites in future contests.

Thank You and Happy Holidays,

The Forvm Website Awards Nomination Committee

FYI:  The "Total Votes" quoted by the board at the bottom of the finalist choices (shown after you vote) denotes the number of individual voters, not the number of sites voted for.

Finalist URLs just in case you want to review any of them:

Sites belonging to members of Forvm's Discussion Board are listed in maroon, and their Forvm screen names are listed in maroon and parenthesis.  Sites or content in languages other than English have said languages noted in green; English content is also noted for such sites if any is present.  You may access an English translation of foreign language content (if a translation is not available on the site itself or if the content is not also available in the primary language) by clicking on the foreign language name.

Here is a reply from the owner of "Julius Caesar:  The Last Dictator":

Dear Friends,

I hope I can call you that, because our relationship is now going on - 2 years? 4?

I am very touched and delighted that JC has won your award.  After all my tech problems of the last year - including the fact that Google, for unknown reasons, has dropped my Caesar site completely, so that you can't even find the URL if you type in the full address, no known reason! - it means something particularly special to win this award from you after a great deal of frustration, for my dear old Caesar.

I will happily put it up and note my thanks to all at the Forum.  Many thanks!

Sincerely,
Suzanne Cross

Hello,

I am honored that once again my website has been awarded by the Forvm.  As soon as I possible can, I will publicize this information and display the logo on my main page.

Thanks again.

Here is a reply from the owner of "Roma Aeterna":

Thank you so much.

I am very happy for such surprising result, as I realize that my site - mainly written in Italian - could not appear friendly enough to English speaking people.

Therefore, in order to show adequately your nice award, I decided to create a new "Award page" in my site, and I included in it few other minor awards received in the previous years. The address of http://www.romaeterna.org/consensi.html

Now my site can benefit from the great look of the 2006 Bronze Forvm Award for Classical Studies.

Thank you again for your nice words.

Cordially,

Domenico Carro
