Hmm, it has since been identified to - "Poppo,
bishop of
Metz 1090-1104. The
legend on the building-side should be read : +POPPO METN-S EP-S (= Poppo, Metensis episcopus). The item above, however, bears the ending PE-S, which is of no importance. The right
side is displayed upside down and should be read S STEPHANVS, as stated by Tony Merson. The
Dannenberg Catalogue lists the
Type as Nr. 50. In
Flon, Histoire
monétaire de la Lorraine et
des trois-évêches, it is
Vol 1, p.192 Nr. 7."
