Helm with indian coin?
« on: September 23, 2006, 04:16:21 am »
Hi

Here is a small bizarre coin of 17 mm. Maybe it is an Indian coin.
Any information about this coin is welcome.

Thanks

I am not sure if it is Indian or not.  I have never seen a coin like this.  The reverse seems to show a fish in a pool, which can be found on some early Indian coins.  The other side seems to show a sun face.  From its appearance, I think this may be from Islamic times.

I thought that it is an Indian coin because it seemed to me to look like this other coin which I possess.

I believer your second coin was minted by Bhartrdaman sometime between 278-295 AD.  It is very similar to coins number 2764 to 2779 in Mitchnier's Ancient & Classical World.

Hi Tanit

As Howard says, this is a coin of Bhartradaman, as Mahakstrapa (204-217 SE/ 282-295 AD), and is dated year 206 (284 AD) behind the head.

Best wishes

Alan
