Even the commonest LRB would be a treasure if I found it myself, I envy you!

The coin maybe but Lizzie sure isn't.....

They didn't spare her a 'warts and all' job with her portrait !

Hey! I metal detect here in the US and wow! Just last week I found 2 wheat pennies, 7 beer pull tabs circa 1967, and an Ipana toothpaste tube.....ahem...
Marcus's finds always amaze me.

Obviously Americans are just as careless with their money and their rubbish as the Romans were! :)

I find pull tabs in the most remote and unlikely places, even where I am sure no man has tread in 100 years, yet they are there.

Metal detecting is fun, but one must accept the fact that most metal detecting is more of a service to mankind as glorified trash cleanup.  ;D

That is a really nice Elizabeth!

Marcus,

Is the Gratian a Wreath with VOT XV MVLT XX reverse?

Also, if you don't mind questions from someone stuck in Canada where you can't dig:

Where are you (roughly)?

What mints do the coins you find come from?

I am wondering if there is any correlation.  For example, if you are located near Lugdunum do you find more Lugdunum, Arelate, Treveri, etc??

It is FELICITAS ROMANORUM rev.
I live in the same town where Gratian was born, also Aurelianus,Probus,Maximianus Herculius and Constantius ll.I hope this will help.
There is so manny diferent mint marks on my coins from Nicomedia - Mediolanum, but i think Siscia prevail.

DruMAX, thanks for the "hint" ;)

Marcus, thanks for the info.  I spent three years in Sarajevo and got to Belgrade, Osijek, Srebrenica, etc but never made it to Sremska Mitrovica.

It is always interesting to see from how far away the coins you find come from.

I can only imagine how exciting it must be to "find" ancient coins (let alone the beauties you've found)!  It must be, literally, wonderful.

Good condition I see. I have always found that when the Constantinian coins are coming up really bad, the Aurelians and Probus coins are still in great condition.
MA is right about Siscia mint being predominate, but we still get a great deal of Constantinian coins from Thessalonika.
I don't know how MA does for Moesian coinage as he hasn't posted any, but I dig a great deal.
