Hi,

Can somebody tell me more about this coin -rarity, legends, etc.? It is not described in Krause catalogued (the year is not there). Any help is highly appreciated.

Hi

As you say, not listed in KM for this date, but I see that there are at least 7 different types of 20 kreuzer being issued between 1756 and 1787, one of which (KM 255.1), for instance, is noted as being issued in 1765, 1773-5, 1781, 1783-5 and 1787: I suspect your date for KM 289 just hasn't been reported to Krause yet, just as some of the missing years for 255.1 might turn up.

The legends read ALEXANDER MARCH: BRAND: DVX BOR: (Alexander, Margrave of Brandenburg, Duke of Prussia) and SECHZIG EIN FEIN MARK (Sixty [of these coins are made from] one pure mark [of silver])

[Edit: oops! should be (as is plainly written on the coin): SECHZIG EINE FEINE MARK (I shouldn't try doing these things at 1:15 AM) The meaning is still the same]

Hope this helps

Best wishes

Alan

Many thanks, Alan. Your help is highly appreciated. I will let the coin go on eBay; let's see what the market says about the rarity.
