By the way, on the edge one can see a certain periodic structure. I noted it also on some other
Roman bronze coins. It looks like a trace of some treatment during the fabrication process.
Could someone comment on this?
This coin is believed to be an issue
commemorating the grandchildren of
Antoninus Pius or the birth of
Marcus Aurelius and
Faustina II's third surviving daughter.
The
reverse is described as
Faustina Junior, as
Pietas, the personification of
piety and dutifulness, standing left,
between
Faustina Minima,
Lucilla and holding baby Fadilla.
There is also a small problem with the
identification. I believe that there is only space for XXII but one cannot exclude
that the
legend ends by XXIII (hence, the
attribution should be more frequent
RIC 1031).
