Antoninus Pius AE Sestertius, 159-160.

Obverse: ANTONINVS AVG - PIVS P P TR P XXII, laureate head right.

Reverse: PIETATI -AVG COS IIII / S-C, Pietas, in long dress, standing facing, head turned
left, holding globe in her outstretched right hand, small child on her left arm; to left and
right, small girls in long dress standing facing, heads turned upwards.

 RIC 1002. C. 620. BMC 2062

An interesting coin.
Is it authentic?

Hmm. Tricky.

The obverse has a certain Paduan look to it, but the reverse looks genuine.

I'm really not sure.
Gut instinct tells me to be careful, though.

What does the edge look like? Any evidence of a seam or file marks? Is the coin unusually thick?

I see no real reason to doubt the coin.

The edge:

By the way, on the edge one can see a certain periodic structure. I noted it  also on some other
Roman bronze coins.  It looks like a trace of some treatment during the fabrication process.
Could someone comment on this?

This coin is believed to be an issue
commemorating the grandchildren of Antoninus Pius or the birth of Marcus Aurelius and Faustina II's third surviving daughter.

The reverse is described as Faustina Junior, as Pietas, the personification of piety and dutifulness, standing left,
between Faustina Minima, Lucilla and holding baby Fadilla.

There is also a small problem with the identification. I believe that there is only space for  XXII  but one cannot exclude
that  the legend ends by XXIII (hence, the attribution should be more frequent RIC 1031).
