Recommendation for provincials?
« on: June 28, 2009, 06:11:40 pm »
I've been collecting Roman Imperials for a long time, but I'd kind of like to get into some of the provincials too.  I have over 100 provincials already, mostly from a bulk lot I bought years ago.  I was wondering if you had any recommendations for any specific issues?  I'd be looking for something that's 25 mm. or larger, and has a fairly decent portrait.

I like the Antioch Tetradrachms, especially the earlier ones, as well as the "Rome style" ones of Philip.  I also admire Alexandrian Drachms, but I never got much into the Tetradrachms, mostly because of generally lousy portraits, and the low silver content didn't help either.

Hi!

I have changed from Imperial coins to Provincial coins too. Because the number of Provincial issues is unmanageable it is recommended to specialize. My favourite region is Thracia and Moesia. So it is a lot easier to get the needed literature.

Best regards
