Probus OT Day 5th Jan 2006
« on: January 05, 2006, 11:09:56 am »
I haven't posted a Probus for a little while. I had given up on this coin arriving. It took 9 weeks from the date of posting in the USA to arriving in the UK. I think it was worth the wait.

Obv:– IMP C M AVR PROBVS P F AVG, Radiate bust left in imperial mantle, holding sceptre surmounted by eagle
Rev:– ADVENTVS AVG, Emperor riding left, right hand raised, left holding sceptre
Minted in Siscia (XXIV in exe). Emission 5 Officina 5. A.D. 278
References:– Alföldi type 5, n° 96. RIC 624 bust type H.

A very pleasing example and nearly completely silvered. Lots of detail on both sides.

Regards,
Martin

Very beautiful coin, Martin!
I espescially like the marvellous reverse. Never seen that reverse being so beautiful detailed preserved.
Congrats ;).
Grtz,
Nico

Hi,congratulation.

your coin is wonderful. We can imagine the Augustus on his horse walked in the Roma street.

I hope find ,too, a coin of septimus severus on his horse with similar condition.

Best regards

frederic

I, too, admire this Probus, as indeed other Probus when very fine.  I'm going to cross-link it in that Sol threadPat L.
