Hi Everyone:

Here is a link for the (Public Domain) HTML/PDF versions of Gibbon's The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, 12 vols. (1776)

Hope you enjoy as much as I have...

i have to agree. gibbon was the first history book i read post-college that i actually had *fun* reading. his style of writing is witty, elegant and imbued with that quality that makes every sentence an instant quotation. asides from his gift as an author he was a great researcher and took great pains to sift out the truth from the primary sources he had available - an onerous task given that contemporary ancient sources are as a whole very unreliable.

two thumbs up for gibbon!

If you enjoy taking a book out to the backyard, like I do, a hard copy can be had at Barnes and Nobles for 10 USD. It is also helpful for killing mosquitos.   :o
