A fake hybrid
« on: March 25, 2021, 08:23:27 am »
Dear Friends!

I received this coin as a gift yesterday. AE 28, 5.74g, 27.73g
It shows a Greek die for Philip I on the obverse, probably from Antioch in Syria, because I found thelegend with  AVTOK K M there. It resembles Prieur 444/445.
The reverse shows the die for a follis minted c. 301 under Diocletian and Maximian in Alexandria
Both stamps are more than 50 years apart. So it will not be an ancient hybrid. Judging by the surface, it seems to me that the coin was also cast.
This makes it a modern forgery.
Can anyone confirm this?

With thanks in advance
Jochen

It immediately appeared to me to be cast.

Both stamps are more than 50 years apart.

In my opinion sufficient evidence of forgery. However, it is difficult to judge from the picture whether ancient or modern.

If I can see, someone has already tried to saw a coin between 1h and 2h to see what metal is inside.

Thank you all. I think it will be a modern fake.
