Help with roman coin
« on: January 14, 2021, 08:36:14 pm »
Hi,
This coin is 23.5 mm and 7.2 grams.
The reverse is beyond hope but am hoping to identify the emperor. I can't make it out but seem a very early imperial.
Thanks

Again, a total ruin.

You can use this "thing" to try some risky cleaning methods. It could be instructive and also safe because there is nothing to break.

My guess would be Julio-Claudian from the head shape and neck - though you will have a better idea of it in hand.

There are some left facing Augustus and Tiberius.

Look at wildwinds for those Emperors with it in hand to see if the bust matches......

It seems to be down to the metal already--I doubt anything will improve it.

Yes you are right have cleaned as much as I can. The pitting makes it hard to as will just remove more patina for no gain.
I'll try Tiberius/Augustus in Wildwinds and see what I come up with.

Thanks
