Bank Leu 33 May 1983 catalogue
« on: November 10, 2020, 10:26:51 am »

Hi,

Bank Leu sold a Eumenes ll portrait coin with the Kyberoi/Dioscuri on the reverse. Has anyone got a picture of this particular coin from its May 1983 catalogue?

I have tried google and Isuu but no joy!

Thanks,
John

This coin is described as a die match with Leu, Auction 33, May 3, 1983, Lot 364

SNG  France 1627 ( the SNG France example is described in the link above as ex Leu, Auction 33, May 3, 1983, Lot 364). The coin you are looking for.

Here is an article by Marie-Christine Marcellesi, "Power and coinage - The portrait tetradrachms of Eumenes II", where these tetradrachms are depicted and discussed:

Another confirmation that the Eumenes II tetradrachm from Leu 33, 1983 is the BnF specimen can be found here (together with some more references):
