Islamic silver coin ID help
« on: October 18, 2020, 04:59:55 pm »
Supposed to be Mehmed II, the conquerer of Constantinople.

Can anyone help read it? Not sure I even have it oriented correctly or which one would be obverse or reverse.
A reference would be appreciated if possible.
Weight is 1 gram but I do not have the size yet.

Thank you. This helps a lot.

So, are you saying the name appears to be Soliman or something similar or is that your signature name? Sorry for asking.

I can't decipher the first name. It is written Sultan / X son of / Soliman

Thank you. I'm thinking it's not Mehmed II then.

I presume 'Soliman' is Suleyman I (the "Magnificent"), in which case his son would be Selim II, ruled 1566 to 1574.

Indeed it is Selim. Black dirt on the coin cuts the first name in half Sel-im
