ID help
« on: October 08, 2020, 06:23:30 pm »
Received this coin few days ago from an auction, it was in a group lot with few Levantine provincial coins. I spent few hours but couldn't identify it. Any ideas? 15.9x14 mm, 3.86g, 12h. The portrait looks like Septimius Severus to me.

Few more hours of research and mystery solved. Indeed, Septimius Severus, and I was able to read  :Greek_Delta: :Greek_Alpha: :Greek_Mu: :Greek_Alpha: :GreeK_Sigma: :Greek_Kappa: :Greek_Omicron: :Greek_Upsilon: on the reverse. Unfortunately not covered by RPC yet (hopefully next year), but other references are: DeSaulcy Damascus, Septimius Severus *8 and Mionnet Volume 5 p.289 n.45. I was not able to find pictures of other specimens in public collections or auction records, seems to be very rare.
