Three typolgies in one coin
« on: August 08, 2020, 09:51:23 am »
Hi guys! I want to share with you this nice coin from the last part of the reign of Constantine VII. It is a copper follis minted ca.950-959.
As usual, this coin is overstruck on a Romanus I follis, Sear 1760. This is the first type (931-944 ca.).
The second type, as you can see on the reverse, is a Sear 1761, mentioning only Constantine VII as emperor (945-950 ca.)
Third type, on the obverse, is a Sear 1762 and shows Constantine VII and Romanus II holding a globus surmounted by a patriarchal cross (950-959 ca.)

As obvious, the coin is a mule with an obverse 1762 and a reverse 1761. Not easy to see a mule from this period.

The coin shows a little plugged hole but it doesn't affect the overall appeal.
