From a reputable Australian
auction house I bought this lovely and possibly unrecorded coin of
Antoninus Pius:
ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP TR P XI around a nude bare
bust with an
aegis. The
reverse commemorates Pius' first ten years as tribune: PRIMI/ DECEN/NALES /COS IIII/ SC within a
wreath. This particular series is common, but there are many variations in the
bust types; about five are in most catalogs, but the
aegis is new. It weighs 9.55 grams, which is normal for an as.
Has anyone ever seen this
bust variant on this
type?
