Fake Elagabalus, Cart of Astarte
« on: June 01, 2020, 10:05:23 pm »
Sigh, just got this sweet Cart of Astarte coin in the mail and it’s a fake. I could have easily seen it too because I already own another identical fake! So yeah feeling very dumb right now. The patina looked soo authentic that I didn’t bother to compare it. It was suspicious once I looked at it under my scope, the green patina was very powdery. I could see some metal crystals. The edge looked worked. Then I realized it looked just like the other one I had that I was sure was fake. So now it’s confirmed, fakes!

The first two pics are the one I just got. The third pic is the one I’ve had for a while now.

The one with patina would have fooled me, at least before I did the sort of close inspection you describe.
