Any help would be appreciated! Pseudo-imperial?
« on: May 24, 2020, 08:33:13 am »
Hello.

I have been told that this Theophilus is a Merovingian 'pseudo-imperial' coin of the 9th century. I can find nothing about it but took the chance on the coin.

Thank you for any information you can provide. Also, does it look legit?

Thank you.

What is the material?  It looks like lead.  I suspect it is a modern fantasy, but this is not my area.  I doubt the attribution you have been told can be documented.

Hello. It is supposed to be silver, sorry I should have mentioned that.

If it is a fake I think they did a good job on making it look convincingly old. I have read that the Merovingian Psuedo-imperials were very unique and it is often hard to find comparables. That would be a good kind of coin to fake I guess. Anyway, thanks.

Serbian trash from modern hand cut dies.

This terrible fake is currently for sale at ebay with other trash (terrible style hand cut die fakes).
