Augustus o tiberius koinon thessaly
« on: April 14, 2020, 06:42:00 am »
This ae 20/22, of the Koinon of Thessaly, in my opinion is not listed in the PRC, would seem to be n. 1425/6, but the legend of the strategos does not coincide, that is "Sosondros".
Rather this seems to me attributable to "Megakles Arist", thus being part of the coinage n. 1428/9.
On the obverse: ΣEBAΣHΩN ΘEΣΣAΛΩN.
On the reverse: ΣTPATHΓOY MEΓAΛOKΛEOY ..... some letters are under the right hand of the figure.
I kindly ask if this interpretation of mine is correct or a classification. Thank you and goodbye

Reverse reads: ΣΤΡΑΤΗΓΟΥ ΛΥΚΟΥΤΟΥ

so:  RPC I, 1431A is nearest your coin.

 Thanks Pekka,
The reverse, in my opinion is of different coinage, apart from the much larger shield, it is highlighted how the letters of the legend are read from the outside towards the inside as opposed to what you posted that being also very ruined you do not appreciate well the legend.

If you read the CNG reference carefully, you find:  RPC Supp. 1431A,
that is exactly the coin in my post above.
