Strange.  I have never seen anything like them. 

The left hand one has a fleur-de-lys and a cross and is perhaps crusader era but could be later pilgrim too.

The right hand design looks a bit like the pre-Islamic Arabian designs you sometimes see on rock carvings but this might just be a coincidence.

I was going from memory, but google Sabaean script and Sabaean tombs and you will see the type of thing I meant.

Your item does not necessarily look that old, but it was the style.
