My defeat, if understood, should be my glory

Hello Friends,

I have good news: I passed my doctoral dissertation defense!

It is about Acheloios (no surprise!) in relation to Thales and the origin of philosophy--however, it is framed as a response to several Neo-Marxian scholars that claim the advent of coinage was the essential technological development leading to philosophical activity. For those interested, here is the preview I uploaded to academia!

I am very grateful that I have this forum and many of you to call friends, and could not have done it otherwise!

Best Wishes,

Nick

Congratulations. What an exceptional achievement!

It crowns you as the ultimate Acheloios authority. A genuine guru, without question.

Best wishes

Thank you, that is very kind of you to say. It truly was a labor of love.  Whereas Potamikon had a lot of heavy lifting that Id never done before, this was much more fun because I already learned so many tricks!

Thank you! The actual writing of the dissertation was three intense years, but the research has been going on for over a decade.

Many congratulations, that's a huge step. I certainly know the misery; the only bright spot for me way, way back then was that my adviser had already brought the bottle of champagne to the oral defense so I had hopes of making it through that. A huge step for you.
Best,

I hope you find it worth your time!  Unfortunately the full document cant be released since Im working to find a publisher for a revised version. But I can always send individual chapters if you see one that is really interesting.
