Hello Friends,

I have good news: I passed my doctoral dissertation defense!

It is about Acheloios (no surprise!) in relation to Thales and the origin of philosophy--however, it is framed as a response to several Neo-Marxian scholars that claim the advent of coinage was the essential technological development leading to philosophical activity. For those interested, here is the preview I uploaded to academia!

Thank you, that is very kind of you to say. It truly was a labor of love. Whereas Potamikon had a lot of heavy lifting that I’d never done before, this was much more fun because I already learned so many tricks!

Thank you! The actual writing of the dissertation was three intense years, but the research has been going on for over a decade.

Many congratulations, that's a huge step. I certainly know the misery; the only bright spot for me way, way back then was that my adviser had already brought the bottle of champagne to the oral defense so I had hopes of making it through that. A huge step for you.

We already had dinner reservations, so I knew there was a good chance I’d pass. That would have been an awkward dinner otherwise!

I hope you find it worth your time! Unfortunately the full document can’t be released since I’m working to find a publisher for a revised version. But I can always send individual chapters if you see one that is really interesting.
